In 1968, Floyd Seekins, Ray Nendick, Jim Smith, Jim Padgett and Johnny Wilson went to Browns Ranch in Colorado to hunt elk. The night before season opener the men went to listen to a speaker. That speaker was Yankee Arnold, www.calvaryoftampa.org. Yankee gave the gospel and some of the men accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior that night.
In the spring of 1968, Yankee Arnold came to Dora Lake MN and speak at the Missionary Alliance Church were Floyd Seekins was pastor. Families from all around come to hear the Gospel. Some families from the area decided it was time to start a church based on what they had heard from Yankee.
The summer of 1968, the families from Dora Lake started meeting outside at Jim & Gwen Padgett’s home. They had the privilege of listening to several Gospel minded Pastors including Rev. Richard Seymour www.clarityministries.org and Dr. A Ray Stanford, president of Florida Bible College. Yankee also came back several times. In the winter time the group met at the Dora Lake Town Hall with Rev. Dave Hayes. They anxiously waited the day that they would be able to build their own church.
In 1970, Ezra Schauer asked the families of Dora Lake (Jim Padgett, Jim Smith, Chan Adams, Herman Adams, Rod Goble, and Howard Hallett) to help him build a house and in exchange he would donate land for a church. The families agreed to help and that’s how the Good News Bible Church in Dora Lake was born.
The Good News Bible Church of Cohasset began in 1980 when Rev. Bill Adams came from Colorado Bible College. Along with Pastor Dan Adams and Tom Adams, they incorporated the by-laws and doctrinal statement. The Good News Bible Church of Cohasset wasn’t always in Cohasset. The church began services at the Grand Rapids Bus Depot. After a period of three years, Rev. Bill Adams took a youth pastor position in Chicago and Rev. Dan Adams began speaking and continued for 20 years. After Pastor Dan Adams retired, Pastor Tom Adams took over.
In the early 1980’s, the Good News Bible Church of Cohasset purchased the present building. In recent years the church has experienced substantial growth. God has truly blessed our church.
In the spring of 2010, Pastor Tom Adams decided to retire. The congregation was tasked with finding a new pastor when the lord so graciously led one of their own to step up. That is when Pastor Lance Edminster took over.
A quote from Pastor Edminster: I, Pastor Lance Edminster, have had the privilege of studying and learning about the Bible from Pastor Dan Adams and my good friend Pastor Tom Adams. Pastor Tom Adams wrote the following, “Our church from the beginning has stood firm on the belief that the only means of salvation is by trusting in Jesus Christ. To add works of any kind, rituals or legalism means you do not fully trust in Jesus Christ. Romans 11:6 says if it be of Grace it cannot be of works, otherwise Grace is no more Grace. If it was of works it couldn’t be of Grace otherwise work is no more work.”
In 2008, after Pastor Dan Adams had passed on, a few families at the Good News Bible Church in Cohasset started the Lords Army Youth Group in memory of him. Visit that website at www.lordsarmyyouth.com.
Everyone is welcome and the people of our church always make visitors feel like family.
